Deception (2013) TV Show Review.

Deception (2013) TV Review

I have finally sat down to watch the season finally of the TV show Deception. Originally, I started watching the show thinking that it would be another cop drama…man was I ever wrong.
I was over whelmed by the number of players in the movie at first, but after about episode three I had them all down. There are the characters of the family, the FBI, and random other people mixed in, and some of them are dead. It is a tangled web/mess of relationships that takes a bit to master.
All I wanted to do with this show was to figure out the killer before the show revealed it. For some reason, it has become an odd obsession of mine. I love being able to find plot twists before they happen. This show did not allow for that to happen. I literally guessed the killer like two minutes before it was revealed; I call that a fail on my behalf.

It also took me a long time to decide who I wanted the character Joann to date. There was so much drama that was going on throughout the series and nonstop twists and turns. I was definitely hooked by episode three. The best way I can describe the entire series is much like a undercover cop show mixed with Gossip Girl.
If you like shows that have drama and plot twists, I would definitely say this is a show for you. While the focus show is to find Vivian’s killer, there are plenty of other moments that make you wonder. The season was so crammed full of moments that I am uncertain how they are going to carry this into another season. This fact is especially pertinent when you think take into consideration that the last episode tells who the killer is. While it is true there was no reasoning given behind the death, I just don’t see how you can spend an entire season catching the killer when you already know whom it is. Thoughts anyone?

Netflix says it has the disc at the sight but not streaming: http://www.netflix.com

I in NO way, shape, or form own Deception; I’m simply sharing my thoughts on the series.

Movie Review of Oz the Great and Powerful

Oz the Great and Powerful
Director: Sam Raimi
Writer: Mitchell Kapner & David Lindsay-Abaire
Stars: James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, & Mila Kunis
Category: Action, Adventure, & Fantasy

I have been looking forward to seeing this movie for some time thanks to the lovey Mila Kunis. As a child, I had watch the play about the Wizard of Oz and fell in love with the world of Oz. After some time and Hollywood magic, I was interested to see what they would come up with.

Graphics:
I was not very pleased with the CGI for this movie. There were a lot of moments that felt as if they relied too heavily on it. I love the CGI work that they did for the little China girl, however. It was just beautifully done, but there were other moments that it just felt unnecessary.

Scenery:
The world of Oz feels so much like something that only appears in your dreams. I loved when Oz first arrives, and along the river, there are plants that are making wonderful music. A butterfly lands on a tree, and the leaves of the tree turn out to be just more butterflies. It was just beautiful and made me wish I was there.

Acting:
My favorite performance would go to Mila Kunis. She was just amazing in this movie and I completely loved the performance. Even though going into the movie, I was a little worried about how she would do. I was completely blown away. The moments with Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz are amazing. The two just went so well together, and there were definitely my favorite part. Though, Zach Braff would have been in that category as well, but he does voice over work instead of acting for most of the movie. The voice over work that he does is lovely and made me love the monkey character when I was sure I was going to hate him.

Plot:
The plot had a few good moments, but a few bad-cheesy moments as well. It was a nice take and there is an interesting twist at the end that did get me. Overall, I did enjoy the plot. (Though, it seems like I’ve heard something like it before (LOL)). They do their best to surprise you with what they can.

Overall:
This movie was fun to see. I am glad that I saw it in 3D. It is worth it, even if some moments are a little overplayed. I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would but the acting of Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz kind of saved it for me. There is doubt that I will be buying it on DVD, but I might have to borrow it from someone else when they get it. Overall, I would give the movie a 7/10!

Jack the Giant Slayer (2013)

Jack the Giant Slayer
Director: Bryan Singer
Writer: Darren Lemke & Christopher McQuarrie
Stars: Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, & Ewan McGregor
Category: Adventure, Drama, & Fantasy

This movie has had me excited since I saw the first trailer for the movie. It reminded me so much of the Brothers Grimm (http://adf.ly/K4aGo), and I loved that movie so I had high hopes for this movie. There was absolutely no let down from this movie at all! (Except for a few tiny easily overlooked details)

Graphics:
The CGI for this movie was down very smartly. There was a large amount of effort but into making sure that the camera angles would be the best angle to get the best shot for the work that was down with both giants and humans within the same scenes. There is also a lot detail work put into the looks of each and every giant to make them the grotesque monsters that they are. I noticed this when there was a scene of a giant picking up something very small and you could see the lines of his fingerprints on his hands.
There were a few 3D shots within the movie that were just not executed well, but I have seen many worse ones. Sadly, there was this awkward animated part to the story telling in the beginning that really bugged me for some strange reason.

Scenery:
The shooting location was perfect. The work put into the castle scenes were exquisite. They truly gave the air of a castle. I wish there had been a little bit more seen of the giant’s home town because there is just so much left to the imagination for me.

Acting:
The acting is this movie was nice. There were a few moments that I got hung up on the fact that some actors were in other movies. Those moments would get resolved the moment I realized what other movie they had a role. My favorite two actors would have to be Eleanor Tomlinson who plays the Princess Isabelle and Ewan McGregor as the knight Elmont. They both seemed to just fit both the look and part of the roles.

Plot:
The plot was a refreshing twist to the tale of Jack and those pesky beans that took a little bit to get going but once it did, it didn't slow down.. There are still plenty of new points to the movie that it doesn’t feel like some over played story line. I thoroughly enjoyed the changes that they added and that they did not focus all of the attention on some kind of a love story. There was the perfect amount of action, romance, and twists.

Overall:
I have already determined that I will be buying this movie and watching it on repeat; now if only it was already on DVD. The humor that was used in this movie was nice; mostly because it was not shoved in my face the whole time. There were a few moments that threw me back through (and I also jumped twice during the movie). One scene is a far too close of shot of a giant’s face for me. There is also a scene where three humans try to hide from a giant and chose behind a tree, behind a rock, and last but not stupidly enough under water. I say this mostly because if I had been in that moment I would have most likely froze and thought of about zero hiding spots. I would also like to know what kind of products that Jack uses on his hair because he fell from the bean stalk as it was falling, swung off on a vine, and then landed in a hay stack and two seconds later, his hair was perfectly in place. I’m just not buying it…
I loved this movie and am completely satisfied; I give the movie a 9.5/10!
Also I paid for the iMax 3D and would have settled for the iMax part alone.
