Movie Review for Snitch (2013)

Snitch

Director: Ric Roman Waugh

Writer: Justin Haythe & Ric Roman Waugh
Stars: Dwayne Johnson, Susan Sarandon, & Jon Bernthal

Category: Action, Drama, & Thriller

This movie is something that I have looked forward to seeing for a few days. It seemed like a movie that would nicely pair action with a real movie plot. The movie is about a Dad, John Matthews (Dwayne Johnson), who decides to help his son, Jason Collins (Rafi Gavron) get out of prison earlier by doing a drug deal to bust another drug dealer. The trouble is that nothing ever goes as planned in John's plot.

Graphics:

The special effects in this movie are well executed and have a high level of believability to them. The camera angles that they use feel very off and odd. I am a bigger fan of the camera style of Michael Bay's movie, but they weren't completely horrible.

Scenery:

The locations that were chosen to shoot this movie were rather good actually. Instead of taking a lot of time building stages, it seems like they opted for shooting on locations which was nice and refreshing.

Acting:

I am not that happy with the acting in this movie. There were really only three actors that I really like. Rafi Gavron who plays the son Jason Collins does an amazing job of playing up his role. He is getting beaten in jail and I completely believed that he was scared for his life. Jon Bernthal plays Daniel James who helps John Matthews get into the drug trade. He does a really good job of playing the rehabilitated criminal trying to stick to the straight path. My favorite character was probably Barry Pepper's character Agent Cooper. There is just a level of professionalism to the role and the detail put into the character was great.

Plot:

The plot to the movie was fairly solid. The trouble was that it progressed at a very slow rate. I am a major fan of fast paced movies and this was not that kind of movie. The ending is a rather nicely wrapped up ending that doesn't leave to much to question. There also wasn't as much action scenes as I was hoping from the movie.

Overall:

This movie is not one that I would watch again. It was too slow paced with only three actors that were note worthy in their acting and there were plenty of other actors on screen. The dialogue and events that happened with the drug deals was also rather off putting. Something about them felt too unrealistic and vague. I'm giving this movie a 4.5/10. I found myself more excited about the trailers for Iron Man 3 and Red 2 than the movie that I paid to see.
